But it wasn’t going to be as easy as that, and WestTel were not going to roll over. With a couple of lapses of concentration at the back Harry’s suddenly found their advantage soon disintegrated.

But whilst the defence were doing their utmost to keep the opposition at bay, the attacking due of Dickens and Atkinson was keeping the WestTel defence likewise occupied. Another two strikes by Atkinson were to evade the Honduran goalkeeper and restore the two goal advantage once more at half time.

Whilst Harry’s had had their fair share of the opening twenty five, the second half was going to be a different story completely as WestTel started pouring forward in numbers. Harry’s were digging in well and even ten minutes in they still held the two goal lead. In fact it could have been even better had the WestTel keeper not pulled off some excellent stops to deny the Harry’s strikers. As Neesome wearieed after toiling tirelessly in the middle, Naj came on to play in front of the back two. Whilst he broke up play well for the first few minutes after his appearance, he started to feel the pressure as the game wore on.

Despite taking a time out to try and break up their opponent’s game, you could sense that a goal was coming from the opposition and so it proved when they finally made one of their breaking advances count to halve the deficit. A tired Heffernan stepped off soon after to be replaced by Coen, but neither he nor Griffiths could stop WestTel breaking down the right and beating Carlowe low to his left to restore parity.

Still Harry’s dug in despite being exhausted and it was now a case of trying to hold out for the draw. But a bitter late blow subjected Harry’s to defeat after they failed to defend from a free kick on the edge of the area. The ball was played short inside from the left to a WestTel midfielder, but Naj had failed to close down his opponent which allowed him to fire the ball into the top corner to cement their win. You could see how much it meant to them by their celebrations. It was a cruel blow but this league is not sympathetic and Harry’s being well aware of this know they have to fight to the death in all their games this season.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://matchreport20jul09.blogspot.com/2009/08/harrys-fc-match-report-v-westtel-on-20.html' title='Harrys FC : Match Report v.
